Hydradermie Facial @ The Beauty Studio

Last week I treated myself to a Hydradermie Facial.
I’ve had this facial before and wanted to share my thoughts….
I can’t put into words how much I needed this facial! I don’t have spots or any extreme skin conditions but my skin is drab and sallow…

Ok…please excuse me on the description of the treatment it’s not as accurate as it could be as I was falling in and out of consciousness (it’s a relaxing treatment, I was super sleepy!)
The therapist left the room as I slipped off my shoes and top and lay on the massage table under a towel. After cleansing and a gentle exfoliation the therapist applied a delicious gel to my face which smelt so good .
In the middle of the treatment the therapist begins a mild electrotherapy (ionising, galvanic and oxygenating high frequency).
This sounds scary but in fact the 2 cold Hydradermie machine rollers massage over the face which feels lovely and helps the active ingredients penetrate deep into the skin, removing impurities and toxins and improving sluggish circulation.
I think this was the point when the second gel and electrotherapy came, this time the skin tingles more and the electric device is now like a metal wand with small metal balls on the end.
I snoozed as a hydrating face mask was applied, I came round to the therapist’s whispering “are you wake?” she then removed the mask and massaged in a light moisturizer. I felt sad when it had to end!
I don’t really feel the benefit of facials without the electrical treatment any more, this method really does seem to push the product deeper into the skin. My skin is plumper and the benefits seem to last longer . I can only imagine after a full course of treatments my skin would look and feel great and I’ll keep you updated after a couple more sessions.
The products all smell like heaven and really suit my skin type.
Now, nearly 10 hours after my appointment my skin still feels more hydrated than it has in years!
Instead I can honestly say my skin is clear and looks and feels incomparably hydrated!

So if you want an equally wonderful experience, call THE BEAUTY STUDIO now, to make an appointment, on 082-786-0332. They are conveniently situated on Essenwood Road, inside Golden Scissors ... So you can schedule your hair and beauty appointments on the same day and leave feeling totally rejuvenated and beautiful!

An amazing book that takes you on a journey of a woman, the various roles she has to play - mother, wife, daughter, sister, and the dynamics of pleasing everyone and holding down the fort.

The storyline is one that many women can identify with, yet its one that is kept hushed and hidden.

Hearing and hearing loss

Every aspect of an individual’s life is enriched with sound. Every sound brings forth a memory, a way we can identify with the world. We can hear it in the crashing of waves upon the shore, pattering of rain upon a window, the singing of birds, a crowded room resonating with many voices. The sense of hearing enables us to experience the world around us. It allows us to gather, process and interpret sounds continuously and without effort.  We may take this special sense of communication for granted. However, communication is one of man's most important skills, and communication depends on the sense of hearing. For children, hearing sets them on a path to the development of speech, intellectual and psychosocial skills which prepare them for educational attainment.

Hearing impairment is the most common sensory loss in the human population, affecting more than 250 million people in the world. About 3 in every 1,000 babies worldwide are born with hearing impairment, making it the most common birth defect. Inserting a great importance to awareness of this difficulty owing to the impact it has on the quality of life individuals lead.

In order to understand how and why hearing loss happens, it helps to know how the ear works. The ear is made up of three different sections: the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear. These parts work together so you can hear and process sounds. The outer ear is the part you can see. Its function is to pick up sound waves and thereafter these waves travel through the outer ear canal.

When the sound waves reach the eardrum between the outer and middle ear, the eardrum starts to vibrate. When the eardrum vibrates, it moves three tiny bones within the ear. They help sound move along on its journey into the inner ear.

The vibrations then travel to the inner ear were the cochlea is situated, which is filled with liquid and lined with cells that have thousands of tiny hairs on their surfaces. The sound vibrations make the tiny hairs move which send the sound information to your hearing nerve, which then transmit it to your brain, thereby allowing you to hear.

There are different types of hearing loss: conductive, sensory and mixed (conductive and sensory combined).

A Conductive hearing loss occurs when there is a problem with a part of the outer or middle ear. Most conductive hearing loss are temporary as there is medical treatment available in most situations.

A Sensory hearing loss happens when the cochlea is not working efficiently because the tiny hair cells are damaged or destroyed. Sensory hearing impairment is almost always permanent and the ability to hear speech normally may be affected.

People of all ages experience gradual hearing loss, often due to the natural aging process or long exposure to loud noise. It can occur because a person was born with parts of the ear that didn't form correctly and don't work well. Other problems can happen later due to injury or illness, including ear infections, listening to very loud music (especially through headphones or ear buds) and other serious infections such as meningitis.

An audiologist is someone who is specially trained to test and help with the difficulties related to hearing loss. Hearing can be tested from birth and at any point throughout life. If an audiologist finds that a hearing loss is present, he or she will recommend treatment and the best way to improve communication.

Hearing problems that are ignored or untreated can get worse. If you have a hearing problem, you can get help. An Audiologist will help you find strategies to keep lines of communication open with friends and family.

Plant Nursery, Captured!

A glimpse of the beauty available at The Plant Nursery, 1305 Bluff Road, Bluff.

My new love .... Lavender

LAVENDER IS ONE OF THE MOST NOSTALGIC FRAGRANCES, bringing scenes of childhood vividly to the mind: high summer days that last for ever, lavender bushes shimmering against the blue sky, the bees blundering in and out among the flowers, stirring up the intense, sweet sensation.
Lavender FieldBut lavender is much more than just pretty & calming. It is one of the most powerful remedies in the plant world, offering both physical and emotional relief for problems as varied as burns, migraines, insomnia, insect bites, skin problems, infections, stress and nervous tension. It owes this amazing spectrum of healing powers to its complex chemical makeup.

Lavender Bath

Excellent for aching muscles, relaxation, stress relief. Add 6-8 drops Lavender essential oil after running the water and vigorously agitate water. Add the drops to a capful of milk or Epsom salts and then put in the bath as this helps to disperse the oils through out the water. This is a great way to receive the benefits of Lavender oil. Lie back and enjoy!

Lavender Shower

After wetting your hair, add 3 drops Lavender oil to a capful of water and tip onto your head. Stand under running water and allow oils to rinse off. Cup your hands over your face and breathe in the vapours. Add oils when shampooing your hair and rinse off as normal.

Lavender Vaporisation

Fill the top dish of an 'oil burner' or 'vaporiser' with water and add 6-8 drops of Lavender oil. Place a lit tea light candle in the space provided underneath the dish. This is a very good way to receive the benefits of the Lavender oil. Use in the bedroom or living room. Vaporisation is especially good to use when you have a cold or feel unwell. Keep burner away from draughts and open windows. Hint: use warm water in the dish for quicker results.

Lavender MassageLavender Massage

This is a particularly effective way to apply the oils when you have tight and sore muscles or have sustained an injury. The oils will be absorbed quickly into the blood stream, thus assisting the body and mind. NEVER massage UNDILUTED oils, always use a good quality vegetable or carrier oil. Add 5 drops of Lavender oil per 10ml of vegetable oil. Use 1-2 drops for babies and the elderly. Only use lavender with babies.

Lavender Tissues/Handkerchief

Good for instant relief from flu, sinusitis and anxiety. Use 1-3 drops Lavender oil and inhale immediately as required.

Lavender Steam Inhalation

Great for colds and flu or as part of a skin/careacne regime. Add 4-6 drops to a bowl of hot water. Place a towel over your head and breathe in the vapour. Keep your eyes shut. Continue to breathe deeply for a few minutes, occasionally removing the towel and your head from the bowl.

Lavender Bush / Plant

Lavender Hand/Foot Bath

Great for tired feet, fatigue or sore/dry hands. Add 4-6 drops Lavender oil to a large bowl of warm water and soak for approx 10 minutes. Then apply a Lavender lotion for added benefits.

Lavender Compress

In a bowl or warm water add 6-8 drops Lavender oil and swirl around. Soak a cloth then gently squeeze out and apply to area of your body you wish to treat. Use cold water for treating new muscular injuries or sprains.

Lavender direct for Burns

After running cold water on the burn for approx 10 minutes, put a few drops of neat lavender oil onto the burnt area (including sunburn). This will greatly assist the healing process. ONLY use lavender. Remember serious burns must be seen to by a doctor.

Ya Taiba .... New Single by Ahmad Hussain

Poetry Piece by Abdulla Amla

Breathe,
I can’t no more for in every word you say lies the emptiness that so aptly describes how I feel these days.
A silken sunset pushes its arms delicately through a bleak cloudscape, and the once spectacular scenery starts to close its eyelids leaving only a trail of where we once tread on golden sands.
Clouds across the horizon as if in a frenzy threaten to splatter their over laden teary cargo,
and yet side by side,
land and sea,
and wooden and sandy pathways,
have a furtive look about them,
still lending a hand to each other,
as if never wanting to let go.
Unlike us, you choose not to colour our canvas of love anymore,
surrendering your artistic strokes for a blanket full of empty dreams and wishes.
Where you once stood,
I still stand,
in the hope of being moved by the elements and the mockery of time.

Love & Loneliness

The feelings we live through in love and in loneliness are simply,
for us,
what high tide and low tide are to the sea.
